Masajella Podcast
The idea for “Masajella” Podcast came from the desire to document Yemeni folklore. The name Masajella was chosen for its connection to the old times, when cassette tapes were the main medium used to send messages filled with longing for home, family, and loved ones.
Today, we have podcasts—our modern tool for preserving stories from both the past and present. We have many “tapes” full of stories and numerous episodes that explore Yemeni songs, each with its own moment or real story expressed by Yemeni artists and poets through music that touched our hearts and sometimes reflected our own feelings.
We also explore our traditional songs, usually heard during joyful occasions—how, why, and when we sing them. In addition, we highlight Yemeni songs that were claimed by some Arab artists without acknowledging Yemeni ownership, as well as traditional foods and their cultural significance, timeless folk legends, and many proverbs and stories rooted in our heritage.
